How to paint red walls in fewer coats.

Some dark or vibrant colors are hard to cover. Red is one of them, if you don’t know this trick.

I have seen and heard of many painters try to get red to cover decently and end up doing 5-6 coats on their walls. That can be a huge pain and waste of time.

These walls have onE coat of red over one coat of primer. Only one more coat of red will be required when we come back for final coat.

One way to avoid having to coat a wall several unnecessary times is to prime the wall with a grey primer. This works not only when painting a wall red but almost any vibrant medium to dark colors

I could tell you all the science behind what the color of the primer does to prepare the wall for the new color - but why bother. You just want to know how to paint your wall quickly, efficiently and make it look good.

So, the next time you are painting red, green or another dark color,

try priming the wall first with a grey primer to make your job easier and look better.
